Summer Series: My Ultimate Summer Driving Playlist

Last week Money Supermarket contacted me about their 'Ultimate Driving Playlist' competition. I knew instantly what my first choices would be, but I still went on a spending spree on iTunes to pucker up my playlist with not a single skipable song!

My music taste is somewhat varied, with days spent singing along to Charlie Simpson and Arctic Monkeys, and evenings bopping to Julio Bashmore or Knife Party. But for me, driving playlists are for classics. For those timeless tunes you'll never skip and the lyrics come flooding back to you every time, with a few recent wiggly-bum numbers for good measure. Some of these songs will probably be obvious choices for you too, and others not so much. I'm not familiar with the world of Spotify, I'm much more of an iTunes gal, so I've linked each one to their youtube video if you fancy some ear candy :)

1. Beyonce - Love On Top
2. Aretha Franklin - Respect
3. Joss Stone - Don't Cha Wanna Ride
5. Chris Malinchak - So Good To Me

These five are almost like soundtracks to a little period in my life. Anything Beyonce just floods back memories of singing our hearts out whilst driving with my best friend. Let's be honest, no one can resist a jiggy to B? R-e-s-p-e-c-t is also a sing-a-long number, one of the first tunes I had blaring out of my car speakers. This Joss Stone tune is a great pick me up song, and one that reminds me of my favourite film; The Parent Trap. Arctic Monkeys just persuade me to channel my inner youth, and I bet that you look good on the dance floor is one of those perfect tracks to whack up the volume to and dance around your room, letting out all your angst. So good to me is the soundtrack to the end of my first year at Uni. We used it in one of our projects, so it really triggers memories of being out in Leeds and drinks in the sun.

6. Imagine Dragons - Radioactive
7. Everything Everything - Cough Cough
8. Scouting For Girls - She's So Lovely
9. Alt J - Fitzpleasure
10. Bastille - Pompeii

My sister introduced me to all of these bands, so in a way I owe her. I guess you can call them Indie bands, but these are my favourite tracks from each :)

11. Bridgit Mendler - Ready Or Not
12. Flo Rida - Wild Ones ft Sia
13. Adele - Rumour Has It
14. Arctic Monkeys - Fluorescent Adolescent
15. Beyonce - Run The World
16. Foster The People - Pumped Up Kicks
17. The Kooks - Always Where I Need To Be
18. Lana Del Rey - Off To The Races
19. Icona Pop - I Love It
20. John Newman - Love Me Again
21. The Lumineers - Ho Hey
22. Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (feat Ray Dalton) - Can't Hold Us

I guess these are the more mainstream choices. I love every song by Lana Del Rey, there's something about her realistic lyrics and dreamy voice that really capture me. Foster the People have some perfectly happy pick-me-up tunes, whereas Adele is perfect for those days where all you want to do is belt out your feelings. The Kooks remind me or secondary school, and Bridgit Mendler is my guilty teeny pop pleasure! Love Me Again by John Newman is one of the few songs both my Mum and I like, and how could I leave out Icona Pop with their unexplainable lyrics?! I love the meanings behind Macklmore's tracks, and Can't hold us has such an irresistible beat.

23. Duke Dumont - Need U (100%)
24. Disclosure ft Jessie Ware - Running
25. Fitz And The Tantrums - 6AM
26. Just Blaze x Baauer - Higher
27. DEVolution - My Friends
28. Jakwob - Fade ft. Maiday
29. Maribou State - Scarlett Groove
30. Mat Zo & Porter Robinson - Easy
31. Naughty Boy - La La La ft. Sam Smith
32. SOPHIE - Nothing More To Say

These last few are tracks I actually downloaded around Christmas time when I started getting into house music. There's something about the repetitive beat in house tracks that make them so easy to listen to, and when they're on repeat you really get lost in the groove.

Despite this list almost being my 'most played' in iTunes, I guess it gives you an idea of what makes me bop around and tire out my smile muscles. I think up beat favourites are the key to a driving playlist, one to keep you awake, and two to keep you happy! Have you entered the competition? What do you think of my playlist?
